Assistant Captain

We are seeking a responsible and guest-focused Assistant Captain to support the safe and efficient operation of the resort’s speedboats and dhonis, while delivering professional service to guests during transfers and excursions.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Guest Transport Manager and Guest Transport Supervisor to ensure vessels, onboard equipment, safety requirements and operational records are properly maintained.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the safe operation and maneuvering of speedboats and dhonis as instructed by the Guest Transport Manager.
• Operate and monitor mechanical and electrical equipment onboard.
• Ensure vessels are clean, properly prepared and ready at the jetty at least 15 minutes before scheduled transfers or excursions.
• Carry out basic maintenance and assist with repairs and servicing of vessels and onboard equipment.
• Conduct routine checks of engines, safety equipment and operational systems and report faults promptly.
• Provide required safety briefings to passengers and explain the correct use of onboard safety equipment.
• Assist guests safely when embarking and disembarking from vessels.
• Handle and store guest luggage and personal belongings carefully and securely.
• Assist with serving food and beverages onboard when required.
• Attend to guest needs throughout transfers and excursions in a courteous and professional manner.
• Coordinate with the Guest Transport Manager regarding fuel, supplies and items required for assigned trips.
• Assist with loading and unloading supplies and other operational items.
• Maintain accurate vessel inventory records and report damaged, missing or defective items.
• Maintain records relating to mechanical and electrical equipment onboard.
• Ensure proper vessel handover and communicate outstanding operational or maintenance matters.
• Follow all resort safety procedures, maritime requirements and Guest Transport operating standards.
• Support other Guest Transport and resort operational duties when required.
• Perform general cleaning of speedboats, dhonis and other vessels.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the Guest Transport Manager or Management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum GCE O’ Level or equivalent.
• Previous experience operating seafaring vessels categorized under A, B or C in accordance with Maldivian Maritime requirements.
• Previous hospitality or guest-service experience is an advantage.
• Valid sea vessel operating licence applicable to the required vessel category.
• Firefighting, First Aid and CPR certification required.
• Practical knowledge of vessel engines, mechanical systems and basic maintenance.
• Ability to operate and maneuver speedboats and dhonis safely.
• Good understanding of marine safety procedures and onboard emergency equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and Dhivehi, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic numerical skills and ability to maintain operational and inventory records.
• Ability to work effectively with Captains, crew members, colleagues, contractors and guests.
