Marine Chief Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Marine Chief Engineer responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all propulsion, mechanical, and electrical systems onboard vessels, ensuring that machinery, auxiliary systems, and onboard operations function optimally. This role involves overseeing maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting of engineering systems, managing the engineering team, and ensuring compliance with Maldivian and international maritime regulations for vessels operating in Maldivian waters and on international routes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of main engines, auxiliary engines, generators, boilers, steering gear, and related engineering systems.

  • Ensure compliance with the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Maldives regulations, fleet technical standards, and International Maritime Organisation (IMO) conventions.

  • Maintain vessel compliance with MARPOL, International Safety Management Code, and other applicable safety and environmental standards.

  • Plan and manage fuel consumption, preventive maintenance schedules, and operational efficiency.

  • Supervise, mentor, and train the engine department crew, promoting safety and operational excellence.

  • Coordinate inspections, audits, and dry docking activities within the Maldives or internationally.

  • Maintain accurate statutory certificates, machinery logs, and maintenance records.

Requirements

  • STCW-compliant Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.

  • Recognized certification by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

  • Minimum 5–10 years of marine engineering experience, with leadership exposure.

  • Strong leadership, compliance, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving, technical, and communication abilities.

Required Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of propulsion, auxiliary, and electrical systems onboard vessels.

  • Expertise in marine safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory standards.

  • Proficient in maintenance planning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to lead and train engineering teams effectively.

  • Strong understanding of fuel efficiency, operational optimization, and machinery performance.
