We’re Hiring: Head of Boatbuilding & Projects – WaveCraft

WaveCraft, a growing fiberglass boatbuilding factory in the Maldives, is seeking an experienced boatbuilding professional to lead its production operations. This position is ideal for a highly skilled candidate with strong hands-on experience in FRP boatbuilding.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day production operations including lamination, carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and finishing.
- Interpret drawings and collaborate with external naval architects and designers as needed.
- Prepare production schedules and ensure timely project delivery.
- Supervise and guide teams of laminators, carpenters, electricians, mechanics, and painters.
- Maintain quality standards throughout all stages of production.
- Monitor material usage and coordinate with procurement for timely ordering.
- Implement and enforce safe working practices and compliance with safety standards.
- Train and develop local staff to enhance skills and productivity.
- Provide progress reports to management and address operational issues.
- Coordinate installation of engines, shafts, propellers, electrical systems, and final fit-out.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in FRP/composite boatbuilding or shipyard operations.
- Strong hands-on experience with hull & deck lamination, stringers, bulkheads, and structural components.
- Expertise in installing engines, shafts, propellers, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Ability to read and interpret GA drawings, structural plans, and technical schematics.
- Proven experience supervising multi-skilled teams in a boatbuilding environment.
- Good understanding of polyester/vinylester resins, core materials (PVC/PET), and marine finishing.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to train and develop local staff.
- Good command of English.
- Willingness to live and work full-time in Thimarafushi Island.
