Job Description

Position Overview

The onboard cashier is responsible for managing all financial transactions and ensuring accurate billing for trade sales and freight collection aboard the supply cargo boat. This includes handling payments for goods sold onboard and freight services offered to local businesses and individuals. The boat serves as a dual-purpose vessel, allowing local businesses and individuals to ship freight to their islands with applicable charges, while also offering stock of trade items for immediate purchase. The role demands excellent customer service, efficient reconciliation of daily sales, and adaptability to maritime working conditions.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Transaction Management

  • Handle all cash, card, and transfer payments for onboard sales, including trade goods and freight service fees.
  • Operate billing and invoicing systems to ensure accurate and prompt processing of all transactions.
  • Issue receipts and invoices to customers, maintaining transparency in every transaction.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of all financial transactions for reporting and reconciliation purposes.

2. Customer Service

  • Deliver excellent customer service to local businesses and individuals using the boat's services.
  • Assist customers with inquiries about products, pricing, and freight orders.
  • Resolve minor customer concerns professionally and escalate unresolved issues to the Boat Operations Manager as necessary.

3. Financial Reporting and Reconciliation

  • Reconcile all cash, card, and transfer payments at the close of each operational day.
  • Prepare and submit daily sales and financial reports to the Boat Operations Manager.
  • Ensure all financial discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly to maintain accurate records.

4. Stock and Inventory Coordination

  • Collaborate with the operations team to monitor and manage inventory levels of trade items sold onboard.
  • Accurately document and report sales of stock items for proper inventory reconciliation.
  • Inform the operations team of popular items and stock shortages to ensure continuous availability.

5. Maritime Operational Adaptability

  • Work effectively in a challenging maritime environment, adapting to variable schedules and sea conditions.
  • Safeguard financial tools, records, and equipment from potential maritime-related risks.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and contribute to maintaining an organized and secure workspace onboard.

 

Requirements

  • Ability to work at sea for extended periods.
  • Comfortable with physically demanding tasks and fast-paced work environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset to handle challenges effectively.

Working Conditions

  •  Based onboard a supply cargo boat operating between Malé and Thaa Atoll.
  • Accommodation and meals provided during operational periods.
  • Flexible working hours aligned with the boat’s operational schedules.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Food and Accomodation: Provided on Boat
  • Medical Insurance: Provided by the Company
  • Salary Range: US$ 500 to US$ 800 (Negotiable – based on knowledge and experience)
